Colombia installs biodiesel plant in El Salvador
BOGOTA, COLOMBIA - Colombia is installing a 10,000-liter-per-day capacity biodiesel
mill in El Salvador, Colombia's presidential news service SNE reported on Aug. 29.
The country's agriculture research corporation, Corpoica, is responsible for installing the
mill and training its personnel. Corpoica will build the mill in El Salvador's forestry technological center, Centa, along the San Salvador-Santa Ana highway. The mill will process
oilseeds and includes storage infrastructure.
In addition, Colombia will reportedly install biodiesel plants in Honduras and Guatemala
in October. The three plants are part of the Mesoamerican biofuels program, which falls under the regional integration plan, Plan Puebla Panamá.
Countries throughout the region are trying to offset diesel consumption in light of high
fuel prices.
Brazil produced 600,000 tonnes of biodiesel last year, matching Argentina's production
and beating out Colombia's 280,000 tonnes, according to data from Frost & Sullivan.

POET opens its 24th ethanol production facility in U.S.
SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA, U.S. - POET recently held a grand opening ceremony
for its new ethanol plant in North Manchester, Indiana, U.S.
The Indiana plant is the company's 24th ethanol production facility. Jeff Broin, chief executive officer of POET, said: "The ethanol that will be produced in this facility will displace
over 60 million gallons of fossil fuels annually - decreasing our dependence on foreign oil
and saving consumers money at the pump."
The new facility will utilize 22 million bushels of corn from the area to produce 65 million
gallons of ethanol and 178,000 tons of dried distillers grain with soluables per year.

ADM to acquire rapeseed
crushing plant in Germany
DECATUR, ILLINOIS, U.S. - Archer
Daniels Midland Company (ADM) announced Aug. 14 that it signed an agreement to acquire the assets of Campa Sued
GmbH & Co KG, subject to clearance by
relevant antitrust authorities. Campa Sued
GmbH & Co KG, based in Straubing,
Southern Germany, operates a rapeseed
crushing plant that produces oil and meal
for the food, feed and energy markets, the
company said.
"As ADM expands its leadership position in agricultural processing, this acquisition strengthens our softseed activities in Central and Eastern Europe, where
we previously had no processing presence," said Joe Taets, managing director,
ADM Europe. "Campa's location on the
Danube River, with a presence close to
the markets of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, will provide excellent additional market opportunities for
ADM."
