FREIGHT RATES
Ocean freight rates started 2008-09
with a fall and they've largely stayed
down, albeit off the lows seen around
the first of the year. The IGC noted at
the end of September that the Baltic
Dry Index was at 2,175 points, its lowest level in more than four months. The
equivalent level at the end of September 2008 was 9,498. "However, the IGC
Grain Freight Index (GFI), which does
not include Capesize rates, gained 4%,"
it said. A year ago, the GFI was at 9,498.
On Sept. 22, it was 5,208.
