IGC conference looks at building
resilience to market vulnerabilities
The International Grains Council (IGC) Grains Conference planned June 7-8 in
London, England, in a hybrid format will examine the concept of building resilience
to global market vulnerabilities. As the world emerges from the coronavirus
pandemic, and the focus moves to climate change, building resilience
to future shocks is at the top of the agenda, the IGC said. In addition, boosting
resilience at a national level may have consequences for global markets.
To meet current challenges, policy makers and private enterprises must
share knowledge, expertise and opinions. The IGC is in the position to bring
together key players so such discussions can take place.
This year's hybrid format features contributions from speakers in pre-recorded
format and live. Several key topics will be covered, including supply chain
vulnerabilities, sustainability as well as related climate change mitigation policies,
and will be centered around four main sessions: economic growth; sustainability
criteria and new trade policies; carbon trading schemes; and the
future of biofuels within the context of renewable energy policy.
Asia will be the regional focus of the conference, including an examination
of trends in food demand, particularly the substitution between rice and
wheat. Day two will include a number of commodity-specific workshops covering
topical issues affecting markets for wheat, rice, oilseeds and pulses.
