The Swiss-based Bühler Group recently
announced several changes
in its management organization.
Urs Bühler is president and chief
executive officer, affiliated companies;
Ferdy Egli is deputy to the
president and CEO for the food,
non-food and die casting divisions;
Philipp A Muller is deputy to the
president and chief operating officer
for other divisions. Heading the
group divisions are Peter Eisen, die
casting division; Hanns Pladerer,
manufacturing division; and Arthur
Wettstein, food division.
TMO, the Turkish state-owned cereals
corporation, has awarded a
contract to Ballarini Socama SpA,
Reggio Emilia, Italy, for the construction
of 21 plants for the storage,
treatment and handling of corn.
Ballarini Socama designed, manufactured
and supplied the 175,000
tonnes of storage along with related
treatment and handling equipment.
Included in the project are silos that
are filled at 100 tonnes per hour by
chain conveyors and bucket elevators.
Corn is stored in self-emptying
hopper silos erected on steel pillars.
The grain is dried in five 100-tph
dryers with heat exchangers.
2002
Gary Weston, who developed Associated
British Foods (ABF) PLC
into an international food, ingredient
and retailing group as its longtime
chairman and chief executive,
died Feb. 15. He was 74. Weston
stepped down as chairman of ABF
in May 2000 after suffering a mild
stroke in September 1999. Under
Weston's leadership, pre-tax profit
of the company increased from £13
million in 1967 to £384 million in
1999, and its valuation climbed
from £90 million to more than £3
billion. Weston had been a director
at ABF since 1948.
The European Commission has
cleared under the European Union's
Merger Regulation the acquisition
by US agribusiness company Archer
Daniels Midland (ADM) of
sole control of the Alfred C. Toepfer
International/InTrade (ACTI)
group, a trader in grain and other
agricultural commodities based in
Hamburg, Germany. The companies'
activities overlap slightly in
the trading markets for seed oil and
oilseed meal, but this does not give
rise to competition concerns, the
Commission said.
Lyle Burbach has been named
president of Behlen International
Ag Systems, Columbus, Nebraska,
US. Burbach previously was vice
president of marketing at Behlen.
Since joining Behlen in 1972,
Burbach also has held such positions
as technical service director,
district sales manager, product
manager and sales manager.
2012
The Canadian Wheat Board (CWB)
on March 1 announced it has
reached a strategic agreement with
Cargill, the CWB's first agreement
for grain handling services since
the end of the CWB's monopoly.
CWB and Cargill said programs for
farmers will be rolled out by the end
of March. The strategic agreement
with Cargill will provide farmers
who market through the CWB with
delivery access and port handling
services. Participating farmers will
take advantage of CWB's global
customer network, long-established
relationships with grain buyers, and
trusted international brand, CWB
said.
Viterra Inc. announced on Feb. 15
that it has entered into an agreement
to sell its North American livestock
feed operations to Hi-Pro Feeds LP
(Hi-Pro). Hi-Pro is a newly formed
entity owned by the existing management
team of the livestock feed
business and Birch Hilly Equity

Partners. The agreement includes
all of Viterra's North American feed
assets. These assets include six feed
mills and one pre-mix manufacturing
facility in Canada, and six feed
mills and a commodity blending
site in the United States.

Nisshin Flour Milling, Inc., a subsidiary
of
Tokyo-based Nisshin
Seifun Group Inc., has reached an
agreement to acquire Miller Milling
Co., Bloomington, Minnesota, US.
Miller Milling is the 12th largest
flour milling company in the United
States, according to the 2012 Grain
& Milling Annual, published by Sosland
Publishing Co. Miller Milling
operates two US flour mills - one
in Fresno, California, and the other
in Winchester, Virginia. The company
has daily capacity of 27,500
cwts. Nisshin, Japan's largest flour
milling company, first entered the
North American milling market in
1989 with the acquisition of Rogers
Foods, Ltd., a flour milling operation
based in Armstrong, British
Columbia, Canada.
Ninety years ago in early March,
the flagship publication of World
Grain's parent company, Sosland
Publishing, had its founding as The
Southwestern
Miller. The magazine
was created by three brothers
- David, Samuel and Sanders
Sosland - to focus on the Southwestern
region of the United States'
flour milling industry. Also in 2012,
World Grain is celebrating its 30th
anniversary. Since 1982, it has been
supplying information to the global
flour, grain and feed processing and
handling industries.
