Cargill boosts salmon feed research in Norway
DIRDAL, NORWAY - The Cargill Innovation Center in
Dirdal, Norway, has expanded one of its two research locations
from 4 to 12 cages with a NOK 15 million ($1.36 million)
investment that significantly increases the capacity to
conduct field trials on salmon feed and contribute to a national
focus on sustainable feed.
In step with this expansion, the total biomass ceiling has received
approval to increase from 910 tonnes to 1,400 tonnes.
Although the total allowed biomass for both sites is unchanged
at 1,560 tonnes, the increase will mean significantly
better flexibility in how feed and feeding trials are run. The
other sea site facility already has 12 cages.
External environmental impacts are expected to be positive
with the surface area increasing from 2,300 square meters to
Cambodia's Long Grain Co. unveils rice mill
KAMPONG SPEU PROVINCE, CAMBODIA - Long
Grain Co. Ltd., a specialty rice producer and distributor, unveiled
its new mill from which it expects to increase production
from 33,000 to 200,000 tonnes by 2025, allowing
expansion into other products such as rice milk, rice cakes,
grain spirits and rice oil.

Located in the Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia, the
68,809-square-meter mill utilizes innovative technology from
milling to distribution to ensure quality, the company said. The
$9 million investment features cutting-edge technologies such as
milling, whitening, polishing, grading and sorting equipment and
modern packing facilities.
Long Grain's product range includes Jasmine, Senkro
Orub rice and others, sold to a variety of end-users. The company
is an exporter to the European Union, ASEAN nations,
Middle East and Africa.
Didion Milling pleads guilty to charges
in deadly explosion
MADISON, WISCONSIN, US - Didion Milling Inc. pleaded
guilty to two federal criminal charges and agreed to pay
millions in restitution for a 2017 explosion at its Cambria,
Wisconsin, US, mill that killed five workers and injured others,
according to the US Department of Justice.
The company will pay a $1 million fine and $10.25 million
in restitution to the estates of the deceased workers. It
also agreed to serve five years of " organizational probation, "
during which time the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) can inspect the Cambria mill without
a warrant or advance notice.
Didion Milling and six of its managers and superintendents
were charged May 2022 in a nine-count criminal indictment
for its alleged role in failing to ensure work was done to safely
handle combustible corn dust and keeping deliberately false
records before the May 31, 2017, explosion. The company
pleaded guilty to charges of falsifying the cleaning logs and
baghouse logs related to its Occupational Safety and Health
Act and Clean Air Act obligations to conceal the violations.
Three current and former Didion Milling officials were
convicted by a US federal jury on Oct. 13 of workplace safety,
environmental, fraud and obstruction of justice charges related
to the explosion.
